Bloggers Unite: Crafts for China

December 17th, 2007 by Connie

When I got my first big paycheck, I decided that I didn’t want to spend it all on myself. I wanted to do something good with some of the money. Actually, that was not my initial reaction. My initial reaction was to go out and blow as much of that money on gizmos and gadgets until I’m completely satisfied with every thing I have.It wasn’t until Christmas time that I decided that it was time to do something good with my money, something that will help those less fortunate. As I was watching the channel 4 news, I saw a story about a family whose house was broken into. All of their Christmas presents were stolen. The mom was crying because she had worked overtime at her second job, sacrificed time to be with her children, just to give her children a nice Christmas. She worked so hard just to lose everything. Toys for Tots delivered presents to the kids. Each of the three girls started crying. And I started crying. And my boyfriend, who does nothing but cuss like a sailor, was crying. That weekend, my boyfriend and I did some Christmas shopping. I bought ten toys– and only two of those were for my niece and nephew. The rest were dropped off at in a Toys for Tots box located at the front end of the toy store. But this? This didn’t feel like enough.Last week, my friend Melissa posted a blog on her Crafts for China website. The blog consisted of a list of items she is accepting as donations for preschoolers in China. I knew that this opportunity was probably the best opportunity to do more good with my money.I spent very little money on so many preschool items. I just mailed the package out this morning. Below are just some of the items that were in the package. It’s such a wonderful idea and gives me such a great feeling. I suggest that everyone participate. Even if it’s just donating money via paypal.
